The Machinist at Good Fruit Electric is responsible for operating and maintaining precision machinery to fabricate, modify, and repair components and parts used in electric motors and related equipment. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with technical expertise, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Machining Operations:
    • Operate lathes, mills, grinders, and other precision machinery to produce and modify parts to specifications.
    • Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and work orders to determine dimensions and tolerances.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet dimensional and quality standards using measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
    • Identify and resolve issues related to part discrepancies or machining errors.
  • Maintenance and Safety:
    • Perform routine maintenance on machines to ensure optimal operation.
    • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
    • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with other team members, including engineers and repair technicians, to ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Provide feedback on designs and machining processes for continuous improvement.
  • Documentation:
    • Accurately document work completed, including material usage, time tracking, and inspection results.
    • Maintain records of machine settings and programs for repeat jobs.

Qualifications:

  • Education & Experience:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training or certification in machining preferred.
    • 3-5 years of experience in a machining role, preferably in an industrial or repair environment.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in operating manual machines.
    • Strong understanding of machining techniques, materials, and tool usage.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent attention to detail and precision.
    • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
    • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and ability to handle small components with precision.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and oil common in a machining environment.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Work Environment:

The Machinist will primarily work in a manufacturing or repair shop setting. The environment may involve:

  • Exposure to loud noises from machinery and equipment.
  • Working with oils, lubricants, and other chemicals common to machining processes.
  • Moderate physical activity, including standing for long periods and handling heavy materials.
  • A collaborative and safety-conscious team atmosphere that emphasizes precision and efficiency.

Location: Memphis, TN

Hours: M-F 6:00am – 2:30pm

Physical Abilities

  • Standing: 8+ hours daily
  • Lifting: up to 50 lbs.
  • Mobility: Bending and reaching. 

Must Have

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of experience as a machinist.
